Gold Vintage Elgin Women's Pendant Watch 1899

I don't know much about this watch as it was my late fiances Grandmothers. He was 71 when he passed so I am guessing it was his Grandmothers. The number on the inside of the case is 8814140. I looked it up and it says it was made in 1899. There is no glass on the face and it looks like a small chunk is gone from the face but I am not sure if it is suppose to be like that. I wound it up and it runs! The pin is intact and the watch hangs on it nicely. I don't know if the case is real gold or not. ...
